Maharashtra is one of the highly developed states of India and is located in the south western part of India. The state has great history and traditions and is endowed with natural geographical features. Maharashtra has many tourist attractions in the form of magnificent forts, beautiful temples, lovely coastline and beaches, architectural marvels and museums. The state is famous all over India for its rich flora and fauna. It is a paradise for lovers of nature with its abundant wildlife parks and sanctuaries. Maharashtra is endowed with the great Sahyadri ranges, Western Ghats, rivers like Krishna, Koyna, Indrayani and the majestic Arabian Sea. The state has extremely well developed tourism infrastructure with excellent transport systems and hotels.
The capital of Maharashtra is Mumbai, it was previously known as Bombay. It is the largest metropolitan city of India . Bombay thrives with numerous tourist sites . Some of the famous tourist sports are : Gateway of India , the Elephanta caves , the Sanjay Gandhi National Park etc. The various tourist attractions in Maharashtra include places like Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, Shirdi, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Nagpur, Nanded, Paithan, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Chandrapur, Solapur etc. Pune is called the Oxford of the east and is well known for its educational institutes. It has the famous Aga Khan Palace and many temples and museums like Parvati temple and Raja Kelkar Museum. Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Lonavala, Khandala are beautiful hill stations. Shirdi houses the famous Sai Baba temple. Aurangabad has the famous world heritage sites in Ajanta and Ellora caves. These are renowned for the carvings and paintings. Ratnagiri has an exquisite beach temple of Ganpati Pule. The wild life enthusiasts can enjoy at the Melghat Tiger Reserve in Amravati and Tadoba National Park in Chandrapur. The state of Maharashtra has a lot to offer to all the tourists by way of history, culture, traditions and nature’s bounties.
