Madhya Pradesh is one of the largest state of India and it is situated in the central part of the country. The state is a rich storehouse of history, traditions and culture. It is the prime religious and cultural hub of various religions like Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism and Islam. There are many historical forts, palaces, ancient temples and mosques which remind one of the past glories. Madhya Pradesh is world famous for the Khajuraho temples which are a world heritage sites. The state houses the prehistoric part of the subcontinent known as Gondwana or the home of the Gonds. Madhya Pradesh has an excellent tourism infrastructure with good roads, railways, air services and hotels. Bhopal is the capital city of this state. There are 5 domestic airports in its cities like Jabalpur, Gwalior, Khajuraho, Indore and Bhopal. The different places of tourist’s interest include the prehistoric caves at Bhimbetka near Bhopal. The state has well preserved rock shelters with paintings in Sehore, Sagar, Hoshangabad, Raisen and Bhopal. The other Tourist attractions are at Gwalior, Indore, Ujjain, Orcha, Jhansi, Sanchi, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Chitrakoot, Mandu, Chambal, Amarkantak, Jabalpur, Khajuraho, Pachmarhi. Gwalior has many famous forts and temples which stand as a testimony of its rich heritage of art and culture . Ujjain is famous as the temple city. Sanchi Stupa is also a world heritage site. Khajuraho has exquisitely carved temples with erotic sculptures. The tourists can feast their eyes on the varied wildlife at Kanha, Bandhavgarh and Pench national parks. Omkareshwar is the confluence of Narmada and Kaveri rivers. Madhya Pradesh is a place where the tourists can relax and enjoy the lush green forest, hills, ravines, rivers, forts and temples.
