Though Munnar is a secluded hill station of Kerala , it is one of the top tourist destinations of this Southern state of India . This picturesque town is located on the banks where the confluence of three rivers Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala takes place. This hill station lies at an altitude of 1520 meters above the sea level. It’s land is considered extremely fertile for plantations of tea, coffee, cardamom and variety of other spices. Trekking on the 2695 meters high Anamudi peak is a delight for both domestic and international travelers The diverse flora and fauna of Munnar show the abundance of natural beauty. Neelakurinji is an unique blue flower that blossoms after every twelve years on the hills of Munnar. Matupetty, Ramayana, Potheamedu are other tourist destinations which woo tourist towards this important hill station of Kerala.

For a comfortable stay , Munnar offers the travelers variety of resorts and hotels. At Matupetty, visitors can visit the dairy farming industry which also happens to be the centre for the Indo-Swiss Live Stock project. Apart from viewing the magnificent dairy , the tourists have a great picnic on its ground which is adjacent to the lake. Boating at this Matupetty Lake is a favorite activity with both the young and old travelers. Rajamala is the home of the rare mountain goat the Nilgiri Tahr. Devikulam is another beautiful hill station that is situated next to Munnar. Potheamedu is the central plantation place in Munnar; here visitors witness the elaborate plantations of tea, coffee and cardamom.

Location

Reaching Munnar will not be a problem for the tourists because the place is well connected to the main cities of Kerala by air, road, and rail. The nearest airport is Kochi or Madurai and from here, tourists can take a taxi to Munnar. The railway station is also at Kochi. By road, travelers can get to Munnar from Madurai or Coimbatore, which takes only six hours.
