Palace on Wheels Tour

Delhi –Jaipur – Chittaurgarh – Udaipur - Sawai Madhopur – Jaisalmer – Jodhpur – Bharathpur – Agra - Delhi

 
Day 01: Wednesday: Delhi
Arrive at the Delhi Cantonment Station, where the guests are greeted with a warm traditional welcome. Board the train as the Palace on Wheels moves off on a week long luxury cruise of Rajasthan.. Exactly at 17:45 hrs, the Palace on Wheels will depart for Jaipur. Dinner on board will be served at 19.30 hrs

Day 02: Thursday: Jaipur
Morning breakfast will be served on board. At 08.30 hrs as the Palace on Wheels reaches Jaipur, guests leave the coach for a sightseeing tour to Amer Fort that’s a construction standing tall in while marble and red sandstone. This blend of Mughal and Hindu architecture is surely a stunning sight to watch. En route, you see the Hawa Mahal that’s a classy five-storied Rajput styled architecture. The pink and red sandstone stand to be the building blocks of the Wind Palace or Hawa Mahal. You can even shop for traditional handicrafts and local goods at the Rajasthani State Government Emporium.

At 13.30 hrs, lunch will served be at the Ram Bagh Palace Hotel. After lunch visit Jantar Mantar which is a famous astronomical observatory built between 1727 and 1733. The light and sound show of Jantar Mantar is famous. One then returns back to the train for evening Tea. Post dinner session at the Nahargarh Fort guests can enjoy a cultural programme. The beautiful frescos stand to be the highlight of the fort that was once upon a time, a guardian of the Jaipur city. Exactly at 22.10 hrs train departs for Chittaurgarh, a place that’s well known for its valorous tales and romantic anecdotes.

Day 03: Friday: Chittaurgarh/Udaipur
At 07.30 hrs train arrives at Chittaurgarh where the guests will be served breakfast on board. Later they take off for a sightseeing tour of Chittaurgarh Fort. It stands to be epitome of the bravery portrayed by the Rajput rulers during the wars. Chittaurgarh is a majestic structure on a rocky plateau atop a hill that is 500 feet in height. It is associated with the great legend of brave Maharani Padmini. At 09.30 hrs they leave for Udaipur by coach. It is the beautiful lake city of Rajasthan. Udaipur has ample tourist attractions in the form of Lake Pichhola, Lake Palace, Jag Niwas Palace, Jagdish Mandir, Saheliyon ki Bari, City Palace and Museum and beautiful gardens. Visit the Nagda Temple that’s situated near Lake Bagela. This temple is dedicated to the service of Lord Shiva.

Later lunch will be at the Lake Palace Hotel. Post lunch visit the Crystal Gallery and the City Palace. Crystal Gallery has stocked up a wide variety of exclusive crystals that were brought to India from England by Maharana Sajjan Singh. At 16.45hrs guests departure for Chittaurgarh by coach and on reaching Chittaurgarh they will be served Dinner on board. Post dinner session train will depart for Sawai Madhopur

Day 04: Saturday: Sawai Madhopur
In the morning at 06.30 hrs the train arrives at Sawai Madhopur. It serves as a gateway to Ranthambore National Park. Interesting stories of the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh’s wit and the name change of the town from Madhopore to Sawai Madhopore are quite famous. Sawai Madhopur consists of two towns, the Old City and Mantown. Guests will be served breakfast at the Castle Jhoomar Bauri and later they go on to visit the Game Sanctuary. This reserve is famous for tigers and one can enjoy jeep safaris here. On returning at 12.00 hrs, the train departs for Jaisalmer. Guests will be served dinner on board.

Day 05: Sunday: Jaisalmer
Breakfast will be served on board and as the train reaches Jaisalmer at 10.00 hrs, guests leave for sightseeing of the Fort & Havelis. In the ancient times, the city was a well-known trading town and today, it has grown to be called the Golden City of Rajasthan. Afternoon lunch will be served at the Gorbandh Palace. The name literally means ‘to harness’ and the Palace is famous for its Sonar Kila.

After lunch they visit Sam Sand Dunes where a ‘Raika’, your guide will show you around the region that even has quicksand. The vegetation is stunted and it’s a barren expanse of land that gleams under the Sun. Afterwards, take a camel ride and enjoy evening tea for refreshment. Return back to the train & relax and in the evening. Dinner will be at Moomal Tourist Bungalow. At 22.00hrs train departs for Jodhpur.

Day 06: Monday: Jodhpur
As the train arrives at Jodhpur, the Sun City at 09.00 hrs, guests leave the coach for sightseeing of Jaswant Thada and Mehrangarh Fort. The latter encompasses within itself a number of forts that have intricate architecture on their walls, ceilings and pillars. Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha and it’s the second biggest city in the state. Lunch will be at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. It was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929. It was designed and built by the Lancaster and Lodge firm of London. It is an impressive and magnificent structure with a perfect amalgamation of the traditions and modernity. In the evening, guests will be served Tea & Dinner on board and then the train departs for Bharatpur.

Day 07: Tuesday: Bharatpur/Agra
On reaching Bharatpur at 07.15 hrs, guests leave to visit the Bird Sanctuary. The Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur is home to numerous species of birds. It also serves as breeding ground for many migratory birds. Bharatpur was the stronghold of the Jat Rajputs. The places of tourist interest in Bharatpur include the Lohagarh Fort, Bharatpur Museum, Bharatpur Palace and the bird sanctuary.

Post breakfast at the Saras Hotel guests continue for Fatehpur Sikri by coach and then to Agra. Fatehpur Sikri was a city built by Emperor Akbar. It has the impressive fort with Jodha Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Buland Darwaza and Salim Chisti’s Dargah. This city served important purpose as the second capital during Akbar’s reign. Fatehpur Sikri has been declared a world heritage site. Agra is a famous city located beautifully on the banks of River Yamuna. It is associated with the rich Hindu mythology and legends. The city of Agra was founded by Sultan Sikander Lodhi in 1504. Agra’s golden period was during the Mughal rule. The tourist attractions in Agra include the Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Itmad ud Daulah’s Tomb, Jama Masjid, Chini Ka Rauza, Ram Bagh, Saomi Bagh Samadh, Sikadara, Mariam’s Tomb and Mehtab Bagh. Post Lunch at Mughal Sheraton Hotel, they visit Taj Mahal that’s a living symbol of love that existed between Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Return back to the train & relax and in the evening Dinner will be served on board. Depart for Delhi at 20.00 hrs.

Day 08: Wednesday: Delhi Cantonment
In the morning, breakfast will be served on board. The train reaches Delhi Cantonment Station at 07.30 hrs. The tour of Palace on Wheels ends here at Delhi.
