Backwater Tour of Kerala

16 Nights & 17 Days

Thiruvananthapuram - Alleppey - Kumarakom - Periyar - Madurai - Thanjavur - Pondicherry - Mahabalipuram - Chennai.

 
Day 01: Thiruvananthapuram
Backwater Tour of Kerala On arrival, the representative will transfer the guests to their beach resort. Guests are then free to enjoy their time. They can enjoy an overnight stay at the resort. Thiruvananthapuram, located on the west coast of India. It is the capital of Kerala and is also known as Trivandrum. It is the one of the evergreen cities of India and is a major center for industries, politics and above all tourism . This destination is famous for its backwaters and rivers.

Day 02: Somatheeram
On the second day, the guests will enjoy the sightseeing tour of the city of Trivandrum. The city of Trivandrum is famous for the temple of Shri Padmanabhaswamy which was built by the Hindu sects to show there dedication towards the protector Lord Vishnu. You can also visit the beautiful beach of Kovalam which is just 12 kilometers away from the South part of the city of Trivandrum.

Day 03: Somatheeram
The third day of the Backwater Tour of Kerala is available for leisure of the tourists. Guests can choose to rejuvenate themselves with an Ayurvedic treatment at the resort or go fishing with the local fishermen of the region. Tourists can also select to unwind at the beach.

Day 04: Alleppey
Traveling through the coastline enjoying the cashew plantations the guests reach Allepey. It is a place that was called as the Venice of the east. Guests get to stay in a typical Kerala backwater houseboat. Guests can re-energize their bodies with the massage of the herbal oil and enjoy the traditional Kerala cuisine. For the night, the stay will be arranged at the houseboat.

Day 05: Alleppey
The 5th day of the tour is for experiencing the everyday backwater life. Guests can visit the coir-making units and the temples. It will be a great time watching the gigantic elephants enjoying their daily baths at the Elephant Rearing Center. The backwaters are renowned for the canals and its snake boat races held in the month of August.

Day 06: Kumarakom
Cruising by the backwater the guests will arrive at Kumarakom, which is an island famous for its bird sanctuary and calm weather. There are excellent fresh water fish available in the backwaters of Kumarakom. This destination is famous for boating, fishing and the picturesque locales. The resort/hotel will be a home for the guests for the night.

Day 07: Kumarakom
On the 7th day in Kumarakom, guests will get to explore the island enjoying its natural un-spoiled beauty. One can also have a look at the storks, ducks and cuckoos, etc.

Day 08: Periyar
Driving through the rubber plantations and the green covered mountains guests arrive at the Periyar National Park, the protected habitat of elephants. For the rest of the day, guests can freely move around in the place. Overnight stay will be at the hotel.

Day 09: Periyar
Post breakfast, there will be a boat ride through the Periyar Lake, which is a home to diverse wildlife. This is a very large lake that is spread over an area of 55 square kilometers. The lake has its origin in the Western Ghats range of the state of Tamil Nadu.

Day 10: Periyar- Madurai
On the tenth day, guests will move out of Kerala and arrive in Tamil Nadu. In Madurai, guests can visit places like the Thirumal Nayaka Palace which is an ancient palace built in the year 1636. This palace was built by Thirumalai- a very renowned and famous king of that era.. Tourists can also see the Meenakshi Sundereshwar temple, which is the city’s famous temple and attracts visitors in excess of 10000 everyday. For the night, guests will stay at the hotel in Madurai

Day 11: Madurai – Thanjavur
The journey from Madurai to Thanjavur is an exhilarating one, through the lush green paddy fields. There will be a stopover at Tiruchirapally. Here, guests can watch the Srirangam temple which is built by the devotees of the Lord Ranganathan. This temple is also famous for being the largest functional Hindu temple with an area of 6, 31,000 square meters. Guests then visit the World Heritage site of the Brihadishvara temple which is a relic originally built by Rajaraja Chola in the 11th century. For the night, guests will stay at the Tanjor hotel.

Day 12: Thanjavur – Pondicherry
On the morning of the 12th day of the tour, guests can visit Pondicherry - the former colony of the French. Pondicherry bears all the characteristics of the French culture with its boulevards, gothic structures and serene beaches.

Day 13: Pondicherry
On the 13th day, a boat ride will be arranged in order to watch the dolphins play in the ocean. Later in the day, guests can visit Guru Sri Aurobindo Ghosh’s Auroville, famous for its spiritual and meditation practices. Guests will stay at the hotel in Pondicherry for the night.

Day 14: Pondicherry – Mahabalipuram
Traveling through the rich coastline, guests arrive at Mahabalipuram that is famous for its temples and other historical relics. The epics have been carved out in stone at this place.

Day 15: Chennai – Mahabalipuram
Guests can enjoy their time freely in the morning by the sea-shore and admire the beauty of the temples. On the way to Chennai, guests can visit Dakshinchitra famous for its art and crafts. In Chennai, guests can roam through the markets and can shop for things. Guests can enjoy live performances of the Indian classical dances at the theater later in the day.

Day 16: Chennai
Post breakfast, there will be a sight-seeing tour of Chennai. The sightseeing tour includes visits to places like Kalakshetra and the Theosophical Society, both world famous places.

Day 17: Chennai
On the last day, the representative will escort the guests towards the airport or railway station for their journey back home.
