Architecture Tour South India Day 01:Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is regarded as the gateway of South India. So, most of the tours begin from this metropolitan city. This city boasts of some of the architectural patterns which are associated with the history of South India. Among them the mentionable ones are Santhome Church, Kapaleeswarar Temple, National Art Gallery and Fort Museum. Tourists will spend the first night in a Chennai hotel.

Day 02: From Chennai, the tour takes you to Mahabalipuram. The temple here is the only religious destination which is located by the Bay of Bengal. The second night has to be spent in a hotel in Mahabalipuram.

Day 03: The next destination will be Kanchipuram. This city is regarded as one of the most sacred places by the Hindus. Day 04:After spending the 3rd night in Tiruvannamalai the tourists move towards Gingee which is the location of a 14th century fort. Then, the trip takes them to Pondicherry. This town is historically important for being a former French colony. Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry will give you the real essence of Indian culture and thoughts about a completely different lifestyle. Auroville beach is also a wonderful place where tourists can spend the 4th night in any hotel available there.

Day 05: From Pondicherry the journey takes you to Chidambaram. The Shiva Temple belonging to 9th century is the main attraction of this town. Lingam statue of emerald is the prime aspect of this temple. The 5th day ends up in visiting the temples of Tanjore which is a town close to Chidambaram.

Day 06: Trichy is the main destination of this day. Chola dynasty ruled this region during the medieval period in South India. So, visiting this place you will get to see some of the fabulous architectural patterns belonging to that particular period. The house of Lord Clive is also another major aspect which you should not miss out. Some of the other attractions include the Ganapati Temple, Rock-Fort temple and a Shiva Temple.

Day 07: By the 7th day, we come to Madurai – a grand ancient city which was once the cultural capital of South India. Meenakshiamman Temple in this place has an architecture with 1000 pillars. Performance of religious ceremonies inside the temple will undoubtedly draw your attention. Gandhi Museum and the palace of Thirumalai Nayak are the two other attractions of this place.

Day 08:Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is the prime destination for the day 8. Tourists may also take a short trip to Thekkady, a place famous for the Kerala backwaters. Also visit some of the tea and coffee estates which are located here. These estates and spice plantations are the base of agriculture in South India.

Day 09:By the 9th day, the tourists will reach Kochi. This is a natural harbor in Kerala. Formerly known as Cochin, this city has attractions like Dutch Palace, religious destinations of both Hindus and Muslims, churches made by the Portuguese rulers and many others. You can also opt to see some performances of the Kathakali dance – a famous traditional dance form of India.

Day 10: Ooty – the one and only hill station in South India is the next destination. Apart from visiting the famous Ooty Lake, you can go to the Botanical Gardens, Dodabetta Peak and some other places too. There is also a toy train trip to Coonoor which you can try out for further refreshment. Karamadai is a town where you will come across a huge vegetable market. This night will be spent in Ooty.

Day 11 This day begins with a trip to Mysore, the South Indian city mainly important for the historical aspects of this place. This city is also known as the City of Sandalwood. You can visit the Bandipur Wild Life sanctuary to take a look at the habitats of wild animals in this region. There are several hotels in Mysore where you can spend the night.

Day 12 From Mysore the tour moves towards Srirangapatna and Somnathpur – other two historically important cities of South India. The stone temples located in these two towns are really impressive. Flower and vegetable markets in Devaraja are also some of the well known attractions of this place. Somnathpur also has some of the reputed hotels where you will be able to spend the night easily.

Day 13 The day 13 begins with a drive towards Sravanbelagola – a well known Jain pilgrimage in India. On the way, you will also come across the town of Hassan. Sravanbelagola will show you some of the most appreciable Jain architectural patterns. Belur and Halebid are the two places which own most of these prestigious architectures.

Day 14 This day travelers return to Bangalore. Hospet is a historical city in Bangalore and its location is very close to Hampi – another historical attraction in this region. Bangalore is also a high tech city and there are plenty of hotels where you will get all the facilities to spend the night.

Day 15 Hampi is the main target for this day. This place was the capital of the well known historical kingdom of Vijayanagar. Apart from the architectural patterns which are scattered throughout the city, this place is also noteworthy because of the exotic natural beauty. Hills and rivers along with the small ancient villages with their marketplaces will mesmerize with a serene feeling.

Day 16 On this day, the tourists may visit the two ancient cities of Pattadakal and Aihole. These two places were established during the period of Chalukya dynasty. The architectural designs of the very particular Dravida school are very prominent in the buildings of this dynasty. Mallikarjuna Temple is one of the most attractive places where you will get to learn about whole life of Lord Krishna watching the designs made on the pillars. Virupaksha Temple, on the other hand, represents the architectural patterns which were followed during the time of Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Day 17 Vatapi and Badami are the two places which are to visited during morning. There are both Jain and Hindu temples which are known for the architectural intricacies made out of stone which they display. There are also some of the well known granaries which are important to be visited in case you are interested to know about agriculture in South India.

Day 18 Bijapur is the city which the tourists will visit on the 18th day. This city represents some of the architectural patterns which were influenced a lot by the Muslim styles. Gol Gumbaz is a notable building situated in this place. This building can also be regarded as the main landmark of the city.

Day 19 From Bijapur the travelers will move towards Gulbarga. This place truly proves the Indian identity of unifying both the cultures belonging to Hindus and the Muslims. Jumma Masjid is Gulbarga is the prime attraction of this little city. Another architectural marvel of this place is Khwaja Banda Nawaz Tomb.

Day 20 From Gulbarga, we come to the city of Hydrabad. This is the city of Charminar – a remarkable architectural pattern in the whole India. You will also get to see the collections of arms, manuscripts and costumes which are preserved in the museum. This city also has the tombs of the Qutab Shahi kings who ruled this place long ago.

Day 21 Hydrabad is the city where the 21st day of this tour is spent. A large time should be spent in the Golconda Fort which is a wonderful place to know about the culture and heritage of this place. There are also some of the gardens which you should never miss out during the visits.
