Day 01: Arrival in Chennai
Your journey of the Great India Tour will start with your arrival in Chennai. The city has an International as well as a domestic airport, a railway station and a bus station. Hence, it is very convenient for a tourist to reach Chennai. This city was created by the British in the 17th century and is the capital of Tamil Nadu. It is the fourth largest metropolitan city in India Once you have arrived in Chennai you will be assisted to the hotel. Relax for the remaining day at the comfortable hotel in Chennai.
Day 02: Chennai to Mahabalipuram
The second day of the tour will start with the sight seeing in the city. Chennai (or Madras) is rich in culture, tradition, heritage and also the natural beauty. The city is known as one of the most advanced and modern places. The city comprises of ancient and colonic architectures. You can also visit a number of churches and other monuments built by the British. You can visit the famous St. George Fort that was built by the British rulers in 1640. Apart from Britishers, invaders from France and Portugal also visited Chennai hence, constructions in French and Portuguese styles are also seen along with the traditional temples.
In Chennai you can also visit the San Thome cathedral which houses the tomb of St. Thomas, one of the twelve disciples of India . The museums of Chennai hold a large collection of bronze pieces from Cholas and south Indian stone sculptures. After a full day of sight seeing you will be driven to the famous Mahabalipuram. It is a heritage place and it is also known as the open air museum. Here you can view a number of stone architectures. Enjoy a stay at the hotel in Mahabalipuram.
Day 03: Mahabalipuram / Kanchipuram / Mahabalipuram
On the third day of the Great India Tour enjoy your breakfast in the morning. Visit some more places in Mahabalipuram such as the Penance of Arjuna, five Rathas and the Shore Temple. After these memorable visits, you will be driven to reach Kanchipuram which is famous for the large number of temples it houses. The most visited temple is the temple of Ekambaranatha. It houses five different forms of lord Shiva such as “Chidambaram”, the lord of sky, “Shri Kalahasti”, lord of air, “Triuvanaikoil”, lord of water and “Tiruvannamalai”, lord of fire. Return back to Mahabalipuram and spend the rest of the day at the hotel.
Day 04: Mahabalipuram to Tanjore
On the forth day leave for Tanjore which is a journey of about 300 km and lasts for 3 hours. The city is situated at the bank of the river Kaveri. A famous spot in the Tanjore city is the temple of “Brihadewswara”. It was built by the Chola King, Rajraja. The temple is one of the tallest temples in India, measuring 216 feet high. After your visit to the Tanjore city, stay at a hotel in Kanchipuram city.
Day 05: Back to home journey
Pack your bags on the fifth and the last day of Great India Tour. You will be assisted to the airport or railway station. Start your journey back to your ‘home sweet home’ or another interesting destination on your list.
